Meet the team - Patrick

In our latest intallment of Meet the Team, we sat down with Patrick, Community Support Worker at NNA Direct Support Service, to find out what motivates him at work, what he loves about his job and his favourite foods and places in the world. Take a read below.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I was born in Africa in the Republic of Congo (DRC). Growing up, I loved school and was also a big fan of sports, particularly soccer. My mother had a big influence on me when I was younger, and I remember how she would help people in our community who needed it the most.

I followed in her footsteps in my current role at NNA as a Community Support Worker. I love giving back to the community and enjoy making a difference and supporting people to live their most independent life.

When did you join NNA?

I started at NNA Direct Support Service in May this year.

What made you want to be a Support Worker?

Watching how my mother used to support people and make them happy motivated me to want to do the same. I have always enjoyed giving back to the community and helping people live their best lives. I think everyone should have the chance to enjoy life to the fullest.

Helping youth and vulnerable people grow and reach their goals is what I find most rewarding about my job. I believe in equal rights and think everyone should have access to the support they need to lead a fulfilling and happy life.

What are some facts about Patrick?

Outside of work I enjoy making friends and socialising. I love to play soccer. Religion is also a big part of my life, and I enjoy singing songs of praise and worship to God.

Quick Round:

Do you have any pets? I used to have a big black dog called Max. He was very friendly and got along with everyone.
Favourite place in the world? A tie between Australia and Congo
Favourite food? Anything Italian, nachos and Congolese Pondu or Cassava leaves with fufu (both traditional dishes from DCR).

What do you love most about your job?

What I love about my job the most is supporting people to ensure they know they are not alone. I love getting out and about in the community and meeting new people. Getting to know the people I work with is important to me as it helps me understand their unique situation and make sure they feel part of the community – even if they don’t feel this way. For me, supporting people to live their life the way they want and helping them achieve their goals is really is why I do what I do.

Recently, we caught up with Joseph Semaan who we previously introduced to you as our Customer Engagement Manager. But we wanted to reintroduce you to him and his new role at NNA Direct Support Service. Joseph is now our Business Development Consultant based in Western Sydney and has been with us since November 2021. He has over 5 years of experience in the disability sector and has been great to have on the team. What do you see as the biggest opportunity for disability support providers? To reach more participants and assist them to live more independently and improve their well-being and quality of life. Biggest challenge for the disability support sector? Firstly, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) not responding quick enough to plan reviews, impacting participants care. Also, the risk of organisations not meeting professional standards to provide model care to participants. What are some fun facts about you? I have a Diploma in Remedial Massage and ran a business for over 12 years. What are you most excited about for in 2023? Professionally, I am excited to continue to expand the business and help as many people as possible. Personally, watching my daughter grow and celebrate her 1 st birthday. If you or someone you know is looking for support in Sydney, please get in touch with Joseph on LinkedIn here .
