Introducing our Business Development Consultant, Fiona!
Fiona is located in Queensland and joined us in June 2023. She brings with her a wealth of disability sector knowledge and experience, both professionally and personally. Get to know a bit more about her below!
Could you share a bit about your background and previous experience in the industry?
I have been a support worker, care coordinator and support coordinator in recent years. I have a child with a disability and understand how important it is to ensure you have the right network around you.
What attracted you to the organisation?
The team were very supportive and inviting during my interview process – I will admit that I had not come across you before I saw the ad. The people I spoke with seemed to really understand the needs of participants and genuinely want to help them.
What aspects of NNA Direct Support Service's values and culture resonate with you the most?
I really like the focus on person centered care – I think it is very important that participants get to choose their workers, choose the when and where and what of their supports. I hope to be able to support them with this through our onboarding process.
How has your onboarding experience been so far? Have you found it easy to integrate into the team?
I have found the team to be very inviting and helpful so far. I really appreciated the regular contact from NNA DSS through my interviewing process. I feel that the team I am a part of are willing to support my learning of this role and I also feel that I can reach out to any of them with any questions I may have. This has been one of the best onboarding experiences I have had to date in my career.
Can you share a particular skill or expertise you bring to the team that you believe will contribute significantly to our success?
I feel that my years of experience working my way up through the ranks from support worker to now will be a great help to my current role and team. When going out to meet with clients to help with their onboarding and care plans, I have first hand experience of being in that role, I feel that I can use this knowledge to ensure we build the best plan with them. Then I have the support coordination knowledge of the funding packages and how this could be best utilised to support them with what they want and need.
How do you maintain work-life balance?
I really enjoy reading, music, driving and spending time with my family. I have recently also made the decision to go out and complete some further study at university – I find this process a little stressful, but very rewarding. I find life can get very busy, so I maintain a family calendar to ensure we are making the most of catching up with friends and family and getting away for quick family camping trips.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?
My family, lots of iced coffee and my iPad with my e-book library and Spotify on it.
