In our latest instalment of Meet the Direct Support Team, we recently sat down with Customer Engagement Manager, Daniel, to chat about his journey into disability support, some of the challenges and opportunities he's looking forward to, and some fun facts.

Read on to get to know Daniel.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a sports fanatic especially football (soccer), Rugby League and Formula One. Big fan of exploring new places and trying new things. I do love travelling all over the world and learning about different cultures.

My current role is the Customer Engagement Manager in Brisbane and North Queensland. I’ll be the point of contact for all our participants whilst also driving new growth in my area.

When did you join NNA?

I joined NNA in July 2021 and have been in the sector for almost 8 years now.

What do you see as the biggest challenge for NDIS participants today?

Some challenges can consist of being ineligible for certain funding when in fact participants do meet the criteria.

What do you see as the biggest opportunity for the disability support sector/providers?

Biggest opportunity we have is to enrich the lives of those with a disability and continue providing participants with the same opportunities anyone else has.

What is a little-known fact about yourself?

My nickname is Dele and I was lucky enough to get a football scholarship to attend college in the USA. I speak fluent Italian and can dabble in Spanish.

Quick Round:

- Biggest pet peeve? Drivers who don’t say thank you when letting them in your lane.

- Favourite place in the world? Italy is my favourite. The culture, the food, the football and the people are all my reasons.

- Favourite food? Apart from Italian, Thai cuisine is definitely a favourite.

What are you most excited about looking ahead in your new job?

Meeting new people in the sector and really looking forward to growing my portfolio and assisting participants with the level of care they deserve.

Recently, we caught up with Joseph Semaan who we previously introduced to you as our Customer Engagement Manager. But we wanted to reintroduce you to him and his new role at NNA Direct Support Service. Joseph is now our Business Development Consultant based in Western Sydney and has been with us since November 2021. He has over 5 years of experience in the disability sector and has been great to have on the team. What do you see as the biggest opportunity for disability support providers? To reach more participants and assist them to live more independently and improve their well-being and quality of life. Biggest challenge for the disability support sector? Firstly, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) not responding quick enough to plan reviews, impacting participants care. Also, the risk of organisations not meeting professional standards to provide model care to participants. What are some fun facts about you? I have a Diploma in Remedial Massage and ran a business for over 12 years. What are you most excited about for in 2023? Professionally, I am excited to continue to expand the business and help as many people as possible. Personally, watching my daughter grow and celebrate her 1 st birthday. If you or someone you know is looking for support in Sydney, please get in touch with Joseph on LinkedIn here .
