Meet the Direct Support team - Joseph

In our latest instalment of Meet the Direct Support Team, we recently sat down with Customer Engagement Manager, Joseph, to chat about his journey into disability support, some of the challenges and opportunities he's looking forward to, and some fun facts.

Read on to get to know Joseph.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am of Lebanese origin, but I grew up around Western Sydney. In early 2000’s I moved into the Hills area. Family is the most important thing to me, and I love spending time with my family, nephews, and nieces.

My current role is the Customer Engagement Manager (CEM).

When did you join NNA?

I recently joined NNA in November this year.

What do you see as the biggest challenge for NDIS participants today?

Being unable to use their funding during lockdown has given them a disadvantage in not being able to receive funding for the next year. NDIA needs to take into consideration of individual circumstances.

What do you see as the biggest opportunity for the disability support sector/providers?

Choice and control has improved for participants so I see an opportunity for service providers to realign their approach to disability support and follow through in their service delivery. There are many benefits for providers that flow from empowering customer to take control of their support and direct it the way they want.

What is a little-known fact about yourself?

I have a Diploma in Remedial massage and have worked and owned my own business for 11 years.

Quick Round:

- Biggest pet peeve? Dishonesty

- Favourite place in the world? Anywhere with my family

- Favourite food? Lebanese sweet, which is basically sweet cheese

What are you most excited about looking ahead in your new job?

Having more of a positive impact for participants receiving the best service possible as well as growing with the company and expanding my knowledge of the industry.

Recently, we caught up with Joseph Semaan who we previously introduced to you as our Customer Engagement Manager. But we wanted to reintroduce you to him and his new role at NNA Direct Support Service. Joseph is now our Business Development Consultant based in Western Sydney and has been with us since November 2021. He has over 5 years of experience in the disability sector and has been great to have on the team. What do you see as the biggest opportunity for disability support providers? To reach more participants and assist them to live more independently and improve their well-being and quality of life. Biggest challenge for the disability support sector? Firstly, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) not responding quick enough to plan reviews, impacting participants care. Also, the risk of organisations not meeting professional standards to provide model care to participants. What are some fun facts about you? I have a Diploma in Remedial Massage and ran a business for over 12 years. What are you most excited about for in 2023? Professionally, I am excited to continue to expand the business and help as many people as possible. Personally, watching my daughter grow and celebrate her 1 st birthday. If you or someone you know is looking for support in Sydney, please get in touch with Joseph on LinkedIn here .
